Meet the Teacher

Hello bloggy friends!  I am so glad that you have stopped by New Adventures in Elementary!!  The blogging world is quite new to me, so please have some patience with me as I feel my way around this fun, but incredibly technical world.

If you have found yourself on this page, it's obviously because you are interested in learning a little about the person behind the words.  I am mommy to my little peanut, Ria and our fur baby, Bella, and wife to my wonderful husband Michael (you won't see too much of him as he is not keen on his face being plastered all over the good ol' worldwide web).

This is a picture my Ria and me.  It was the 4th of July, and she insisted on making our hair matching and beautiful :) I know I may be biased, but she's a cutie, right?

Here we are at a wedding in Ft. Lauderdale <3, and there's our fur baby, Bella :)

I am also a 31-year-old career changer.  I was never a student who enjoyed being in school.  I had little focus, little patience, and little interest in sitting in a quiet classroom (classrooms were VERY quiet when I was growing up - there was no such thing as GoNoodle, and we absolutely DID NOT sit in collaborative groups).  After high school, I had had enough!!  I dabbled in courses at the community college, but I don't believe I was mentally ready to pursue a degree, so I quit taking classes and went to work full-time.  I fell into administrative work, but when you fall into something, you will find that your heart will never be in it.

After 10 years of being out of school, I was ready to go back and do my thing...oddly enough, I wanted to go back to school, to go BACK TO SCHOOL! :) It may sound cliche, but I wanted to become a teacher so that I could make a difference...I wanted to be the teacher that could reach students like me, and change their lives.  I started this blog as a place to document my beautiful journey.  I am so glad you are all along for the ride!

When I am away from the classroom, I have a ton of hobbies!  I love doing things (I will try almost anything once)!  But more than anything else, I love going to the beach.  I was built for sand, sun, and surf.  I was not built for long, cold winters (which we definitely had this year)!!!

                              There's hubby again - hehe ;)

Here's a list of a few of my favorite things...

*Sports - soccer, softball, snowboarding, whitewater kayaking, & kickboxing
*Sports Teams - NY Yankees (I'm allowed people - my dad grew up in the Bronx!!)
*Foods - pizza, pasta, ice cream, steak (medium rare), and sushi
*Books - (grown up) The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, (child) The Giver by Lois Lowry
*Movies - Goodfellas (not kid friendly), The Devil Wears Prada, & Sweet Home Alabama
*Day of the Week - Saturday - the work week has passed, but it is not yet Sunday ;)
*Places in the World - Gianniskari Beach in Greece, and Ocean City, MD (two VERY different beaches)
*Season - SUMMER!!!  I'd rather sweat than be cold :)

And some goofy photos to say bye-bye :)
